Step 6: Optimize the Page Title
Step 6: Optimize the Page Title
What is a Page Title?
A page title (also called the SEO title or title tag) is the title that appears:
In Google search results.
On the browser tab.
When someone shares the page on many platforms.
It is one of the most important on-page SEO elements.
Why do you need it?
Google uses the page title to understand what a page is about.
A good page title helps:
Improve search rankings.
Increase click-through rate (CTR).
Tell users exactly what they'll find on the page.
Example
❌ Current Title
Root Learning
Problem:
It only shows the brand.
It doesn't describe the service.
Google knows the company name but not what it offers.
✅ Better Title
Online Tutoring for Children | Root Learning
Now Google immediately understands:
Topic: Online Tutoring for Children
Brand: Root Learning
This is much more descriptive and useful.
What should you work on?
1. Include the Main Keyword
Put the most important keyword near the beginning.
Example:
Online Tutoring for Children
2. Include the Brand Name
Add the business name after the keyword.
Example:
Online Tutoring for Children | Root Learning
3. Keep It Short
Aim for about 50–60 characters so it isn't cut off in Google search results.
4. Make Every Page Title Unique
Each page should have its own title.
Examples:
| Page | Page Title |
|---|---|
| Home | Online Tutoring for Children | Root Learning |
| Math Tutoring | Online Math Tutor for Kids | Root Learning |
| English Tutoring | Online Reading Tutor for Children | Root Learning |
| About | About Root Learning | Certified Online Tutors |
| Contact | Contact Root Learning | Book an Online Tutor |
Tools for Step 6
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Yoast SEO (WordPress) | Edit the page title and preview how it appears in Google |
| Rank Math (WordPress) | Edit and optimize the SEO title |
| WordPress Editor | Update the title if no SEO plugin is installed |
| Google Search Console | Monitor clicks, impressions, and CTR after changes |
Where do you edit the page title?
If the website uses WordPress:
Log in to the WordPress dashboard.
Open the page you want to edit.
Scroll to the Yoast SEO or Rank Math section (if installed).
Edit the SEO Title field.
Save or update the page.
Your output for Step 6
By the end of this step, each important page should have:
✅ A unique page title.
✅ The main keyword near the beginning.
✅ The brand name included.
✅ A title that's clear, descriptive, and within the recommended length.
A well-written page title helps both Google understand the page and users decide to click on it when it appears in search results.
