Step 16: Google Search Console
Step 16: Google Search Console
What is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console (GSC) is a free tool from Google that helps you monitor how a website performs in Google Search.
It shows:
Which pages Google has indexed.
What people search for to find the website.
How often the website appears in search results.
How many people click on it.
Technical issues that affect SEO.
Why do you need Google Search Console?
Google Search Console gives you real data from Google. Instead of guessing, you can see:
Which pages are performing well.
Which keywords bring visitors.
Which pages need improvement.
Any indexing or technical problems.
What should you ask the client?
Ask them:
Can you add me as a user to your Google Search Console account?
If they don't have it set up, you can offer to set it up for them.
What should you work on?
1. Check Indexed Pages
What does this mean?
Indexed pages are the pages Google has added to its search database.
Check:
Are all important pages indexed?
Are any important pages missing?
Tool:
Google Search Console → Pages (Indexing)
2. Check Search Queries
What are search queries?
These are the words people type into Google before finding the website.
Example:
online tutoring
math tutor
preschool tutoring
Check:
Which keywords are bringing visitors?
Are they the keywords the client wants to rank for?
Tool:
Google Search Console → Performance → Queries
3. Check Clicks
What are clicks?
A click happens when someone clicks the website in Google Search and visits it.
Check:
Which pages get the most clicks?
Which pages get very few clicks?
Tool:
Google Search Console → Performance
4. Check Impressions
What are impressions?
An impression is counted every time a page appears in Google Search results, even if no one clicks it.
Example:
Your page appears 1,000 times.
Only 50 people click.
That means:
Impressions: 1,000
Clicks: 50
If a page has many impressions but few clicks, you might improve its SEO title and meta description to make it more appealing.
Tool:
Google Search Console → Performance
5. Check Errors
Google Search Console reports problems such as:
Pages not indexed.
Broken pages (404 errors).
Mobile usability issues (if any).
Sitemap problems.
Crawl errors.
Fixing these issues can help Google access and understand the website better.
Tool:
Google Search Console → Pages (Indexing) and other relevant reports.

| Pages (Indexing) | Which pages are indexed and any indexing issues. |
| Sitemaps | Whether your XML sitemap has been submitted and processed. |
| Core Web Vitals | Page experience and performance metrics. |
Your output for Step 16
By the end of this step, you should have answers to questions like:

| Top search query | Online tutoring for children |
| Total clicks | 420 |

Final Goal

✅ Confirm important pages are indexed.
✅ Identify the keywords bringing visitors.
✅ Monitor clicks and impressions.
✅ Find and fix indexing or crawl issues.

Tip: After making SEO changes, compare the data over the following weeks and months. If clicks, impressions, and rankings improve, it's a sign that your SEO work is having a positive effect.
