Step 12: Improve Internal Linking

Step 12: Improve Internal Linking

What is Internal Linking?

Internal linking is the practice of linking one page of your website to another page on the same website.

For example, from the homepage, you can link to:

  • About Us

  • Services

  • Curriculum

  • Tutors

  • FAQ

  • Contact

These are called internal links because they stay within the same website.

Why do you need Internal Linking?

Internal links help:

1. Google discover your pages

Google follows links to find and index pages on your website. If a page has no internal links pointing to it, it may be harder for Google to discover.

2. Visitors navigate your website

Users can easily move between related pages.

For example:

  • Home → Services

  • Services → Pricing

  • Pricing → Contact

3. Improve SEO

Internal links help Google understand how pages are related and which pages are most important.

Example

Homepage Links

Your homepage should link to:

✔ About Us

✔ Services

✔ Curriculum

✔ Tutors

✔ FAQ

✔ Contact

A visitor should be able to reach these pages from the homepage.

What should you work on?

1. Check Navigation Menu

Make sure the main menu includes important pages.

Example:

Home | About | Services | Curriculum | Tutors | FAQ | Contact

2. Add Links Within Content

Don't only rely on the menu.

Example:

Instead of:

We offer personalized tutoring.

Write:

Learn more about our online tutoring services.

Here, online tutoring services links to the Services page.

3. Link Related Pages

Examples:

  • Homepage → Services

  • Services → Tutors

  • Tutors → Contact

  • FAQ → Contact

  • Blog → Services

4. Check for Orphan Pages

An orphan page is a page that has no internal links pointing to it.

These pages are harder for users and search engines to find.

5. Use Descriptive Link Text

Instead of:

Use:

View our online tutoring services

Descriptive links help users and search engines understand where the link leads.
